Bordeaux is a jaunt unlike any other.  The power of Cabernet tempered by the luscious nature of Merlot makes for inviting wines with a sense style and sophistication often imitated around the world.  While most of us have become exhausted with the sky rocketing prices of marquee labels, it remains a fact – there’s plenty of value to be found.  One must simply commit to the hunt.

In our ongoing mission to find you outstanding wines for your dollar spend, we came across a tasty offering from the outstanding 2019 vintage in Bordeaux Superieur.  You’re probably wondering what the addendum represents.  The ‘Superieur’ designation is exactly what it sounds like.  Wines hailing from the greater region of Bordeaux yet farmed and fermented to a higher standard with a minimum barrel aging requirement.  All to say, a cut above entry level offerings with the deliberate intent to deliver serious value.

Chateau Haut Gaudin is an estate property positioned to deliver on this promise.  Owned by the Dubourg Family since 1870, it’s fair to say they’ve had a few years to master their craft.  The 2019 release is composed of 66% Merlot and 34% Cabernet.  It offers up excellent drinkability with a ripe core of fruit flanked by savory herb and notions of oak, underpinnings of nuanced earth.   A jaunt indeed.
