Cocktails for Superbowl 57

This Sunday is Superbowl and alongside your favorite foods we have a couple of drinks that are signature to each team’s cities.  So whether you are rooting for the Eagles with Cheese Steak in hand or Kansas City with BBQ sauce on your face, we have the cocktails to wash it all down.

Finding that drink for Philadelphia was not as easy as we thought it would be with numerous concoctions offered online that were less than palatable.  Then there is “The City Wide” a boilermaker of sorts originally offered on South Street at Bob & Barbara's and finding its way through the local dive bar scene.  It's a Pabst Blue Ribbon with a shot of Jim Beam on the side, giving nod to the cities blue collar workers.  Sounds good but not quite the cocktail we were looking for.  Finally we came across “The Philly Flyer” a drink created by Rick Fitzgerald in a 2011 competition to find Philly’s signature drink.  Rick managed to win even though he was not a professional bartender.  Now while we are not exactly sure that it is officially the drink of Philadelphia, we whipped up a batch and found them to be quite enjoyable.

For Kansas City we quickly found its namesake cocktail, Kansas City Ice Water.  It's a tall drink that combines Gin & Vodka with citrus.  It's origins are vague at best but the cocktail plays a tongue and cheek poke at the local water department due to its slightly cloudy nature.

So no matter what team you are rooting for, we have the cocktail to toast them as each fight for the title.  One last word on each drink, both are deceivingly smooth and slide down way too easy so and it would be wise to pace yourself if you want to make it to see the halftime show.  Cheers!
