Real Deal Sancerre … for a Steal
Sancerre’s great twenty year rise in popularity has been met with lofty price increases. Favorites once south of $20 are now north of $30. While we never mind paying for good wine, spending that kind of coin for something that’s just okay … is not okay. The past few years we’ve been fortunate to feature a number of excellent producers for a modest price tag, but today’s wine might very well be the best bang for buck Sancerre in the biz right now.
Domaine Michel Girault sits in the famous south eastern commune of Bue. Known for it’s gravely limestone soils, often referred to as ‘Caillottes’ or ‘Griottes’. This zone is famous for mind-bending Sauvignon Blanc – the sole grape in Sancerre, and is home to elite level producers. The Girault property is the epitome of traditional farming practices. Their 30 acres of vine are farmed entirely to sustainable methods with vineyard nuances and winemaking expertise passed down for EIGHT generations. No glitz or glam, just dirt in the fingernails and a serious love for Sauvignon Blanc.
We just received a shipment of the 2022 Domaine Michel Girault Sancerre Les Beaux Regards. A wine that easily drinks north of $30, yet asks just $26.99 on our shelf and discounts further in a case. The quintessential Sancerre for Summer, this should be your go to for goat cheese topped anything, white fish favorites or a dozen oysters. |
