Every now & again, the Wine Gods prove they Love Us …
If last week’s blowout Cabernet offer wasn’t impressive enough, we’ve got another ‘stop you in your tracks’ deal. This time our savvy buying has landed a Rioja deal that’s ALMOST too good to be true – because saving $20 a bottle doesn’t happen all too often. One of our favorite producers in the zone is Bodegas Olarra. You’ve seen us feature their wide range of impressive offerings across all levels of quality, but today – we’ve got one of the best buys of the entire year.
Olarra has a TON of land. It’s what makes them so good at what they do. Their ability to use only the best fruit off their estate and sell off the rest of harvest is almost unrivaled. Along the way, they developed a line of classically styled Riojas called Bodegas Monpas Era Costana. A limited range that’s not imported to the U.S. in large quantity. Particularly their Gran Reserva, one of the highest designations of quality Rioja – if it comes to this side of the pond, it’s usually less than 50 cases. We got our hands on a bottle of the 2016 Era Costana Gran Reserva Rioja and were stunned with how the wine showed classic Rioja traits coupled to the fruit driven nature of this great vintage in Spain. Given our deep relationship with Olarra, we managed to get the price of this otherwise $45/btl of Rioja down to just $25.
Don’t believe us? Checkout this screen shot where Wine Enthusiast gave the wine a glowing 95 point review, dropped an ‘Editors Choice’ badge and quoted the price:
To recap, a 95 point Gran Reserva Rioja from a stalwart producer in a top vintage for $20 off per bottle. How does it get better? Buy a mixed/solid case and save an additional 15%, netting you a mind-melting wine for around $21/btl. Have you found the ‘Add to Cart’ button?
